Itinerario delle Acque

This is one of the two entrances to the medieval castle, whose concentric shape _is still intact. Walls, towers, gates and two ditches  protected the inhabited center.  Later the ditches were transformed into streets whose names are “Fosso largo” (large ditch) and “Fosso stretto” (narrow ditch). On the opposite side you can see the church of Sant’Agostino, where actually  the “Anita Belleschi Grifoni” Museum finds location. It is dedicated to the local traditional technique of embroidery on tulle canvas. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of that stretch of Trasimeno lake which belongs to the Panicale territory; this view is often evoked with the fish images of the embroideries out of the hands of the  girls who went to the school founded in the twentieth century. To the right of the door you can see the 17th century Donini Ferretti Mancini palace. Beyond the door passage, three streets, via Ceppari, via del Filatoio and via Grossi, lead to piazza Umberto I. In Panicale there are two other squares: the highest is dominated by the 14th century Palazzo del Podestà, seat of the Historical and Notary Archives; the Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo overlooks the middle square, where there is also the house of the famous leader Boldrino Paneri.
