The moorlands and woods of Panicarola constitute one of the last strips of acidophilic plain wood of central Italy, of a typical character of Central Europe; being at the southern limit of its range, their presence in Umbria takes on a significant bio-geographical value.
The site (classified as SIC – Site of Community Interest) covers a total area of about 274 hectares and has a predominantly flat morphology, with oak or Turkey oak woods.
