Known as “the Madonnuccia” by the inhabitants of Sant’Arcangelo, the shrine was the object of fervent devotion on the part of the faithful of these places until the 19th century. In fact, the custom of using fragments scraped from the plaster of the painting depicting the Virgin for therapeutic purposes was linked to the shrine, to heal children or mothers who had to wear bags with this powder around their necks for some time. Once used, the bags were returned to the shrine and hung to the votive lamp.
