The bell tower is still worth a visit and an image made up of its three bells is displayed in the Cathedral.
The church bells (now electrified) together with those of the town centre were until about 60 years ago the most efficient and widespread means of communication – to call the community together, to mark the time of day –  for the farmers working out in their fields.
