Right outside the historical center of Paciano stands the sanctuary of Madonna della Stella (‘of the Star’). The worship subject is referred to a fresco from the 15th century representing the” Virgin with baby Jesus”, placed in a niche near which was built an hospital for the pilgrims. The legend tells that in 1561 one of the pilgrims hosted at the hospital saw, for three nights in a row, lay on the niche a very sparkling star, which then lay on the veil of the Virgin where nowadays it is represented.
