Lake Trasimeno is the fourth Italian lake in size and the largest of central Italy. Its basin includes the 3 inlad islands – Maggiore, Minore e Polvese. Since 1995, the lake and its 3 islands are the Natural Park of Trasimeno thanks to its high relevance as wetland and area of wintering, resting and reproduction for numerous species of birds as well as boasting a vast fish fauna.
It is a laminar lake with a maximum depth of 6 meters. It is fed by the rains, by the artificial tributary of the Anguillara in which the waters of the Rigo Maggiore, Tresa, Moiano and Maranzano streams converge and by the 2 natural tributaries Paganico and Pescia but it is devoid of natural emissaries.
