The church of Santa Maria Maddalena, located in via Vittorio Emanuele, in the historical center of Castiglione del Lago, is the most important church of the medieval umbrian village. It was also called: pieve o priorata.

The building outside of the wall of the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, during the XV century, due to the small dimension, was unificated with the internal one dedicated to the Saints Giacomo e Filippo, which rests are still visitable nowadays at the Rocca del Leone.
