The castle stands at about 450 meters above sea level and its privileged lookout position hides the historical events that have characterized it with continuous clashes to control it between Perugia and the Tuscan cities. Its name seems to derive from the abundance of milk (from the Greek gala, milk in fact) produced in large quantities by the flocks that grazed here.
Today it is a privately owned complex, but it is equally worth taking a scenic walk around the city walls to enjoy the splendid view of the lake.
