Ancient – geographical and linguistic – border land between Umbria and Tuscany, Borgo Nuovo was fortified by the Perugian magistrates at the end of the 14th century to defend the northwestern borders of the Town, which, territorially, meant defend the true gateway to Lake Trasimeno.
The castle was lost and reconquered several times, damaged and rebuilt, always scene of memorable clashes and raids. Today, of the ancient castle, only an imposing corner tower remains, symbol of the hamlet.
