Sanfatucchio was the ancient market place and customs where the Duchy collected the contributions of the territory. Some structures intended for this purpose are still visible, including the Ancient Customhouse Palace – located right in the center of the village, near the War Memorial. It has the appearance of a building that preserves a plaque with the words “Antica Dogana”.
In reality, there were 5 Customs Palaces in the Sanfatucchio area. All were located along the Via Romana, formerly known as Via Regale, at the time at least as important as the Via Francigena.
