The ‘Luigi Boldrini’ Paleontological Museum of Pietrafitta represents a unique reality in the national panorama. The collection of fossil vertebrates, dating back to the Pleistocene, is one of the richest in Italy and Europe.
Since 2011, the museum has witnessed the history of mining activity for the extraction of lignite, during which the first fossil finds were found. The jewel in the crown of the collection are the 8 skeletons of Mammuthus Meridionalis, whose bones were left in the position they had when they were found.
