Pietrafitta Lake

Pietrafitta Lake

Natural attractor Nature Sport Trekking

The long period of mining activity has given rise to an artificial lake, built as a function of the thermoelectric power station of Pietrafitta, which is home to a very rich aquatic fauna. With a perimeter of over 6 km and an extension of about 120 hectares, the lake is today a destination for walking and sport fishing and for some years has also hosted the Carp-fishing World Championships.
In the neighboring fields, territory of the previous mine, there are still the gigantic dredges, machines used to remove the lignitiferous sediments from the seabed. Monumental examples of industrial archeology, give life to a real archaeological park.
During the excavations, numerous fossil remains were recovered, currently kept inside the “Luigi Boldrini” Paleontological Museum, a few km from the lake.

  • Parktour di Pietrafitta: 6 km wellness-path with pitches and equipped areas around the basin to welcome sportsmen, families and lovers of outdoor activities.
