The parish church of San Silvestro Papa, patron saint of Piegaro, has very ancient origins, perhaps before the year 1000. Over the centuries, it has undergone various restorations, but only around the mid-nineteenth century a radical transformation give it its current neoclassical appearance. It has preserved the rectangular plan, with two small side chapels, while the original trussed ceiling has been replaced by a vault, divided into large geometric compartments and supported by 14 columns.
The building also houses some important works of art: a Virgin with Child between San Sebastiano and San Rocco (Umbrian School, 16th century), a Virgin with Child, San Francesco, San Sebastiano and Santa Margherita da Cortona (16th century) and the miraculous wooden Crucifix that sweated ‘cerulean sweat‘ in 1738, as the plaque next to it recalls.
