It is an ancient parish church overlooking Lake Trasimeno, along the old road that connects Panicale to Paciano, between the woods and the scrub of Mount Petrarvella. Probably erected on a pagan temple, it had the task of fulfilling the spiritual needs of those who worked in the court of Paciano Vecchio.
Legend has it that, in 270, the church was the refuge of Santa Mustiola, who fled from Chiusi (the two signs imprinted on a boulder near the iron cross would be the imprints of the saint’s knees).
On the outside, an ancient rectangular stone can be seen representing the god Janus, whose name, according to local tradition, is also traced back to the name of the city of Paciano.
