Traveling along the provincial Pievaiola road, about 3 km from Tavernelle, there is a crossroads that leads to Colle San Paolo, an ancient medieval castle, which together with Mongiovino and Montali formed a defensive bulwark to protect the Perugian borders towards Panicale. The castle is very particular in its appearance especially in the entrance door surmounted by a crenellated terrace and a bell tower.
In 1443 Colle San Paolo was occupied by the militias of the warlike venturer Ciarpellone. In the seventeenth century the castle passed into private hands, transformed into a residence-farm and renovated into various apartments; today it appears well preserved and inhabited.
