The Wood has an area of ​​160 hectares, with a prevalence of Turkey oak, hornbeam and douglasia trees.

Area of ​​great environmental and naturalistic value, the Wood of Piegaro was the first to have received the certification of sustainable forest management in Umbria. In fact, the forest hosts the Trace-Talking tree project, a technological innovation linked to the sustainable management of trees: through the Internet of Things, devices have been installed which provide real-time tree data for better forest management.

What you can do along the 11 km of ring paths:

  • walks and pic nic (fire for cooking are forbidden)
  • birdwatching (2 towers)
  • mountain bike
  • harvesting non-timber forest products (mushrooms, berries)
