Church of San Martino

Church of San Martino

Church

Located in the center of Petrignano, the church of San Martino houses a large oil on canvas with the iconography of Martino in the guise of a 17th century knight who cuts the red cloak with a sword stroke to cover the poor chilled while the light, illuminating the horse’s head through the clouds, gives us a glimpse of the return of the sun: the Summer of San Martino. The work, by an anonymous author (perhaps by the Roman painter Gaspard Dughet, guest of Fabio della Corgna, who lived for a long time at the ducal court), shows at the bottom, on the left margin, the arms of Duke Fulvio II which joins with that of the Vagnucci family. In the image of the new coat of arms created by the author, the ducal crown dominates the Vagnucci bear, surrounded by eight red points of the cross of the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano.

The church was built after the World War II in a very simple style where the entrance resembles the cinema theatre of that time.
